Journal 1: The Things I Carry

The tangible things I carry on a regular basis are my backpack, my laptop, and my ipod/headphones. These things weigh roughly 15 pounds in total. In my backpack I carry my binders for each class, my calculator, my books to read for class, and my gym clothes. However, their weight does not always correspond to their importance. The most important tangible item I carry with me every day to school is my laptop. I use my laptop in almost every class and utilize the features of the laptop to do independent research and write out my papers or other assignments. In addition, my headphones are one of the heaviest tangible items I carry with me. I need On the other hand, my other important items are not very hefty in size. My calculator is extremely important in my math classes. Without my calculator, I would not be able to figure out most of the problems I am faced with. Although my calculator is one of the least heavy items in my backpack, it is one of the most important things that I carry with me on a regular basis. Although I carry many tangible items, the intangible things that I carry far outweigh them. I am constantly bombarded with the burden of responsibility for my own actions and responsible for taking care of my family quite often. In addition, the pressure placed upon me to do well in school and maintain a high grade point average is almost unbearable in conjunction with the pressure I face in having to pay for college. I would say that the intangible things vastly outweigh the tangible items I must carry with me every day. While I only need to carry my relatively light tangible items during the school day, the burden that is placed on my shoulders is always weighing me down and in my thoughts. Although these intangible things do not physically weigh me down, these responsibilities and uncertainties weigh me down in an emotional manner that easily trumps my physical burdens.
